Homemade Ice Cream

You won’t believe how easy it is to make ice cream at home! This basic recipe for vanilla ice cream contains only three ingredients, cream, honey, and vanilla. If you have an ice cream maker it’s even easier but you don’t need one.

Hubby loves ice cream, but I rarely buy it because of all the questionable ingredients. When our children were young we had an electric ice cream maker,it was fun to make and I knew what they were eating. Over the years we got out of the habit and the ice cream maker was stored in the basement. Sadly it doesn’t work any more. But I discovered you can make awesome ice cream with out an ice cream maker.

Below you’ll find the basic recipe for vanilla ice cream, plus chocolate, berry and fruit variations. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Ingredients:

4 cups heavy, organic cream (whipping cream)
3/4 cup raw honey
2 teaspoons Watkins Vanilla

Mix all ingredient together, follow your ice cream maker’s directions to freeze. Or place in the freezer, in a metal bowl or pan. Check every half hour to an hour once mixture as starts to freeze around the edges and top. Then beat or remix and place back in the freezer. Repeat until it has a soft ice cream consistency. Serve immediately (if you can’t wait) or store in the freezer in a tightly sealed container for two hours or longer to ripen.

Serve plain, topped with fresh fruit or berries, the ultimate chocolate sauce or other toppings of your choice. Ice cream and apple pie is a classic dessert combination as well.

Want to lighten up this recipe? To reduce the fat content use 2 cup or heavy cream and 2 cups of milk.

To make chocolate ice cream add: 1/2 cup cocoa

To make strawberry or fruit ice cream:
1 cup of sliced strawberries or chopped fruit
Optional 1/4 cup honey.

Mix fruit or berries with honey if desired, refrigerate until ready to add. Gently stir in the prepared fruit when it gets to the soft ice cream stage. Place back in the freezer in a tightly sealed container to ripen for two hours or longer.

For the raspberry ice cream pictured above, I simply stirred in unsweetened, frozen raspberries.

For a change of taste try adding one of Watkins 25 extracts and flavors in place of the vanilla.
